The foundation of a secure bond
Bonding is the deep emotional connection that forms between you and your baby. It is one of the most important foundations for your child's development. Through bonding, your baby learns that the world is safe and that there is someone they can trust.
At We Care Academy, we believe bonding doesn't have to be perfect. It's about being there, responding to your baby, and allowing your connection to grow step by step.
How bonding develops
Bonding grows through daily moments of contact and care. Every time you hold, comfort, feed, or look at your baby, you are building your bond. Your baby learns: when I need something, someone responds.
This doesn't always have to happen immediately or perfectly. It's about repeatedly offering closeness, safety, and reassurance.
Secure bonding
With secure bonding, your baby feels free to explore the world because they know you are there as a safe base. Signs of secure bonding include:
- your baby seeks comfort from you when things get tense
- your baby is happy when you return after being away
- your baby dares to explore from a feeling of safety
Secure bonding doesn't come from perfection, but from being good enough.
When bonding doesn't come naturally
Sometimes building a bond can feel difficult. For example due to a difficult birth, postnatal depression, stress, or your own past experiences. That doesn't mean you are a bad parent.
Bonding can grow at any time. With the right support, you can strengthen the connection with your baby. At We Care Academy, you will find information and help to go through this process with confidence.
