Giving birth via caesarean section

A caesarean section is a way of giving birth that is sometimes planned and sometimes happens unexpectedly. Whether it was a conscious choice or an emergency decision: you underwent surgery and brought a child into the world. That deserves recognition and care.

At We Care Academy, we want to support parents who gave birth via caesarean section with honest information and understanding.

Types of caesarean sections

  • Planned caesarean: scheduled in advance for medical or personal reasons
  • Unplanned caesarean: decided during labour due to complications
  • Emergency caesarean: performed urgently when there is immediate danger

Every situation is different and every experience is valid.

Recovery after a caesarean

A caesarean section is an abdominal operation. Recovery takes longer than after a vaginal birth and requires extra attention:

  • the wound needs weeks to heal
  • moving can be painful at first
  • lifting and bending is temporarily limited
  • you need more help in the first weeks
  • listen to your body and don't force anything

Emotional recovery

Besides physical recovery, a caesarean can also have emotional impact. Some parents feel relief, others feel disappointment or sadness that the birth went differently. Both reactions are normal.

You can be proud of what you went through. A caesarean is also giving birth.
